Real-life client experience of microblading at Wanstead Beauty Clinic
Date: December 2023
Why choose Wanstead Beauty Clinic for microblading?
Initially, I chose Wanstead Beauty Clinic because it was local and had good online reviews, I felt confident that I had chosen the right place. I had read about Connie’s experience on the website, so I felt comfortable that she knew what she was doing.
Why choose microblading as a treatment?
I chose to get microblading on my eyebrows as they had been savagely threaded throughout the noughties into a very thin line. Too thin for my face really and they never grew back properly. Being peri-menopausal they were also thinning. I never liked drawing them in myself as I was never sure if I had drawn them in the right shape for my face. Plus, the faff, of doing every day took too long.

How did you find the Wanstead Beauty Clinic microblading process?
I was met in the clinic by Connie who seemed really friendly, she introduced herself and I was taken down to her treatment room where Connie talked me through the process and assessed my eyebrows.
1. The room itself was impeccably clean and the treatment bed had been covered in fresh cling film to be hygienic.
2. She took her time explaining all about the process. From what I wanted to achieve to what she thought would be best for my facial shape and age (I honestly didn’t know!). I wasn’t rushed or pushed into doing the procedure that very day, I was given time to decide if I wanted to come back another day or to not go ahead. Having a cosmetic facial ‘tattoo’ that would last up to six months and possibly beyond, was a big decision that I had to be happy with but, I knew wanted to go ahead.
3. The health questionnaire questions were lengthy, but I understood it was important to be 100% honest so that there were no unwanted side effects.
4. Connie cleaned the eyebrow area with a disinfectant wipe. Then went about measuring my eyebrows with a special angle ruler. Being specific down to the millimetre, she then drew in the shape that would suit me best.
5. Throughout the process of getting the perfect eyebrow shape, I was asked if I was happy with the shape? She tweaked accordingly to my feedback and went to great lengths to explain that she would not do anything that I wasn’t 100% happy with. Explaining that the outlines would appear dark and heavy, they would only be there to allow her to see the area inside where she would microblade. When she wiped them away afterwards my brows would look natural and fuller and NOT like sharpie eyebrows!
6. Upon choosing the colour, Connie chose one that matched my natural eyebrow colour. I was told that after the first session and healing had taken place the colour of the dye would significantly fade and look natural. Apparently, this is called the ‘ghosting phase’ and is a normal part of the skin healing process.
7. The second session I was told, would be about filling in any areas that had faded more than others. Or, tweak the shape/ thicken up the blading if I wanted. Having the second session was all part of the microblading process to ‘top-up’.
8. The microblading equipment was a tiny blade used to create the individual eyebrow hair shape. This came in sealed sterile packaging – like you would expect at a surgery or hospital. Connie also wore gloves for the microblading procedure for complete hygiene.
9. Being asked to sit up so that Connie could see her work and assess any areas that needed topping up, was great. For the first time I could see her work. Back down again for a little lengthening/ widening of shape. Connie was a perfectionist.
How painful was your microblading treatment?
According to the information I found online, the pain associated with microblading varies from person to person. I have a relatively high pain threshold and I must admit that I didn’t think that the pain was too bad at all. It felt cold and numbing at first, with some blades feeling like a scratch. Connie asked regularly throughout the process if I wanted to stop and have a rest period. I didn’t feel that I actually needed one, I just wanted to continue until the job was done although everyone is different.
How long did your microblading session take?
I was booked in for a two-hour session but was finished in an hour and half. The extra time meant I had time for some laser hair removal! What I did notice was that there was absolutely no rush, which gave me confidence that my brows would be done properly to a standard I would be happy with.

How was the microblading aftercare?
The most comforting thing about Wanstead Beauty Clinic microblading was that every single piece of advice about the process that Connie gave me came true. So that with each step, I wasn’t scared or surprised, I took it all in my stride.
-
I was told that I wasn't to get my eyebrows wet in any way for 7 – 10 days after microblading. They were to dry heal to prevent any infections occurring. (Pro- tip – wash your hair in the bath, by tipping your head back into the water so your brows don’t get wet.
-
Connie also said, don’t panic!! The day after my eyebrows would be very, very dark in a solid shape. This was not to last at all and how my eyebrows looked after the actual procedure would be more like how they would be after healing. If she hadn’t have told me this I would have flat out panicked, as it was, I was calm. (Pro tip – DO NOT book anything special for the week after having the procedure!). Day one – my eyebrows were a little tender but not too bad.
-
From day three, I was informed that they might begin to feel itchy as they were healing – true to her word, mine began to feel itchy on day three. I applied a little of the special Vitamin E balm that I was provided with, to the area with a clean cotton bud, this helped reduce the itching.
-
From day five plus, the paper-thin scab began to peel off when I applied the Vitamin E balm. I did NOT peel it way as per her instructions before they were ready. This would ensure that as much ink as possible would stay put in my eyebrows and that the microbladed eyebrows would not be faded too much.

Any tips for anyone thinking about getting their brows microbladed?
Yes, I do have a tip for anyone thinking about microblading. Before I went to have my eyebrows microbladed, I applied numbing cream to the area. I think it helped me, but obviously everyone is different.
The above account was based on an individual client’s experience and everyone's experiences will vary; it is not intended to imply that everyone's experiences will be the same. Since then, our client has returned to have her top-up microblading session and has since then has kindly left us a review.
